What is Paithani Saree?
Paithani saree is a typical traditional silk saree .This

Colours
As Paithani Weaver
are woven from naturally dyed threads, you'll usually find them only in basic
colours like red, yellow, sky blue, magenta, green, peach-pink and purple. Each
saree usually has two dominating colours – one on the saree and therefore the
other on the border and pallu.
Varieties
Paithani Sarees were once made in cotton, however, now only
silk is being used . The handloom silk Paithani sarees are available in two types
– Brocade Paithani and Traditional Paithani. The traditional variety with a
28-inch pallu design usually takes a much lesser time to weave as the work is in a smaller amount intricate.
Brocade Paithanis, on the opposite hand, have a complicated pallu design.
How to identify a Paithani saree
- Banarasi Paithani sarees are made of silk thread and zari and look exactly the same on both sides. So be careful if you find threads showing on the reverse.
- The most common Paithani motifs include lotus ,vines, peacocks, and flowers
- Paithanis are found only in basic colours such as yellow, purple, red, peach-pink, blue, magenta and green as the threads are dyed by the weavers using vegetable dyes.
- Because of the manual nature of the weaving process, no two Paithanis are ever exactly the same. There will always be very little variations in design.
